Focus of Summit: The purpose of the Celebrating the Power of Connection event is to celebrate and empower members of the South Dakota community to take decisive action through meaningful connection that advances our communities forward.

Featured Speakers:

Travis Reindl
Senior Communications Officer at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Travis is a Senior Communications Officer with the US Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, concentrating on postsecondary success through strategic communications. Prior to joining the foundation, Travis completed a three-year stint at the National Governors Association’s Center for Best Practices, where he oversaw the postsecondary education work area concentrating on increasing postsecondary access and completion, finance, governance, and accountability. During his tenure at NGA, Travis led the 2010-2011 Chair's Initiative, which focused on increasing college completion. 

Nick Tilsen
Executive Director of Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation
Nick is a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation, Executive Director of the Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation, and a father of four children. Nick has over 15 years of experience working with non-profits and tribal nations on numerous projects dedicated to creating social change. As the founding executive director, Nick has played a vital role in making Thunder Valley CDC into an organization that is working with local, grassroots people and national organizations to create sustainable solutions in Indian Country. Through the development of a sustainable regenerative community, Thunder Valley CDC is creating jobs, building homes, and opening up new opportunities on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

Jamie Hower
Senior Organizational Development Consultant at Regional Health
Jamie joined Regional Health in 2015, and has been working in the Talent Development field for 7 years. Before joining Regional Health, she worked in the for-profit staffing industry as a recruiter, branch manager, and talent development partner. She earned a  Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Human Resources from Black Hills State University in 2011, and is excited to be working toward a Master’s degree in Psychology. Jamie has an Expert Coach designation from ATD, and is certified in Everything DiSC, Reality-Based Leadership, the LEAD NOW! model, and Crucial Conversations. Jamie is dedicated to the tenacious pursuit of WHAT IF?!, and believes that through action and accountability, true joy regardless of circumstance is an achievable outcome in our everyday lives.

Dr. Donald Warne, MD
Professor, Dean of School of Public Health, North Dakota University
Dr. Warne is Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health in the College of Health Professions at North Dakota State University, and he is the Senior Policy Advisor to the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board.  He oversees the only Master of Public Health in the nation with an American Indian Public Health specialization. His work experience includes: several years as a primary care physician with the Gila River Health Care Corporation in Arizona; Staff Clinician with the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Disorders / NIH; Indian Legal Program Faculty with the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University; Health Policy Research Director for Inter Tribal Council of Arizona; and Executive Director of the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board.

Matt Mattson
Author and Speaker, Co-creator of The Social Excellence project and a co-founder of its sister compay, Phired Up Productions
Matt is a co-creator of The Social Excellence project and a co-founder of its sister company, Phired Up Productions. He and some great friends have spent over a decade building companies that make the world better. He grew up in Michigan, attended Grand Valley State University as an undergrad, and has found his way to beautiful Colorado where he lives with his wife and two adorable daughters. Matt has a Master’s Degree in Education and a Bachelor’s in Advertising and Public Relations. He is the co-author of the book , “Social Excellence: We Dare You” and he can be seen online giving a TED Talk titled, “When We Gather, We Matter.” Matt is a dedicated runner, a passionate entrepreneur, and he’s a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Most importantly, he loves helping people, like you, connect to others who want to change the world.
